Apprentices sponsored by the JLATA are employed by “Employer Members” who are signatory to the Master Line Agreement with Local Union 258 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (“IBEW”).

Local 258 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) is the labour union that represents 4,500 workers in the Electric Utility, Private Power Line, Utility Arborist, Manufacturing and Traffic Control Industries in the province of British Columbia.
Local 258 IBEW was chartered in 1967 in Vancouver and is part of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers that represents about 750,000 active workers and retirees in both Canada and the United States.
Apprentices become members of Local 258 IBEW when they begin their employment with one of our signatory Employer Members.
Electrical Contractors Association of British Columbia (ECABC) represents approximately 150 members across the province including electrical contractors, line contractors, and associate members. ECABC’s membership includes small businesses and large contractors, working on Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland and throughout Interior communities.
The Industry Training Authority (ITA) is the provincial government agency that governs and manages BC’s industry training system. Responsibilities of the ITA includes providing information and assistance through customer service office. The ITA maintains Apprentice records, oversees exams, issues credentials and funds training at pubic and private institutions.
BC Hydro Trades Training Centre is the JLATA’s technical training provider designated by the ITA to deliver the relevant guidelines and levels of technical training as set out in Power Line Technician Program Outline.
